For Belgians and also Americans Jean-Michel Folon is a well-known artist, but for me he was a real discovery. We more or less happened to come across the museum at the Fondation Folon. Only when we researched more we learned about the Château Saint-Hulpe, the amazing Parque Solvay and within it the Folon Foundation. We visited the museum located in the former farm of the castle and afterwards had a meal in the attached restaurant (where the surroundings were nicer than the food). I have rarely seen a better appointed museum which, by the way, was completed, designed and equipped by Folon himself. The over 300 paintings, sculptures and other objects are beautifully presented in the interesting walk through the very varied artistic life of Folon. In the US Folon may be best known for his magazine covers for Time Magazine, New Yorker, Atlantic and many others. A large selection of his posters is shown in the museum, some of which are very well known. Folon had very many talents and created works in a multitude of techniques and work methods. There are the paintings of course, but also sculptures often of his iconic man with a straight hat, pottery items and witty and surrealist objects. The connected shop carries nice items and generally the personnel was extremely friendly and forthcoming. A truly pleasant experience we can highly recommend. https://fondationfolon.be/
