Ivo Maes has a PhD in Economics from the Catholic University of Louvain and a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics.
He is Senior Advisor for historical matters in the studies department of the National Bank of Belgium and professor at the Institute for European Studies at the Catholic University of Louvain.
His main research interests are economic thoughts and the European monetary and financial integration, as well as the history of central banks.
He has published extensively on European monetary and financial integration and the history of central banking and monetary theory.
He has been a visiting professor at Duke University (USA), the University of Paris, La Sorbonne and the Università Roma Tre.
