Set in the beautiful Ursel Castle in Bornem, not far from Antwerp, is an unusual exhibition entitled "Les Liaisons Desireuses". Not to be confused with the novel "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" by Pierre Choderlos de Laclose published in 1782 . The castle is hosting a fascinating exhibition about lust, seduction and desire. Not exactly a suitable day out for the grandchildren, the exhibit starts with illustrations from the famous novel highlighting the theme of eroticism showing how artists, especially Belgian artists, have been inspired by this subject, both subtle and sensuous.
The exhibition is arranged over three floors showing the work of modern artists, including Picasso and Keith Haring, and those working in the 18th and 19th centuries. It highlights photography, video, textiles, collages, painting and sculpture from Belgian collections.
The castle opens its doors to the exhibition from May 26 to October 13, 2024, every Sunday and public holidays from 13:00 to 18:00.
Please note that the exhibition is not suitable for children.
The castle, once the domain of the Dukes of Ursel was, after over 20 years of neglect, extensively restored to its former glory in 1994 by the province of Antwerp.
