Our next show, the “Almost Equinox Show” on Saturday, the 14th of September, features one main act of two sets and two supporting acts of one set each, from an extraordinary group of brilliant musicians in three bands. Hence the start time will be at 19:30. All bands are new at The Staging Post.
“Broken Moon”, the main act, was created in 2019 by musicians of multiple musical influences, including jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin jazz, rumba, and blues. Here are five friends with rich and varied cultural origins and atypical life journeys. (One of them is Jari-Matti who has played various instruments in several bands previously at The Staging Post, and in the bar afterwards). They look at the world with gentleness, with an outward gaze like the moon looking at the earth: far away from the tumult of the world, but close enough to escape for a musical journey where love, passion, emotion, friendship and music are mixed and inseparable; where they break the barriers between musical styles and people. This Belgian, Spanish, and Finnish band will be demonstrating their skills over two sets.
“Amplican” - is named after a beer can precariously balanced on a guitar amplifier. It was founded in 2016 by the guitarist, Bartek, and drummer, Florentino, in pursuit of their teenage dreams, although they didn’t think of themselves as founding a proper band at the time. They were soon joined by the bassist, Ivo, and later by the classically trained clarinettist, Malaika. Although Amplican’s roots lay in rock’n’roll, the addition of new musicians led the group to embrace a more eclectic repertoire. They started playing gigs here and there, occasionally joined by the keyboardist, Pola, Bartek’s niece. Then lastly, Olivier Buckley, (whom we know well from his several, excellent appearances at the Staging Post), joined in 2023. He started pushing the group in a folksier direction, with the others often joking that he wanted to turn them into a Bob Dylan tribute band. “Sweet Escape” is a recently-formed duo of two experienced, Belgian musicians; Manon, vocals and piano, and Bruno, acoustic guitar and arrangements. This will be their seventh appearance. They cover contemporary titles (Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Adele, Coldplay, Jessie J).
