“Post Impressionists” Cezanne, Gauguin, and Van Gogh are instantly recognisable by their bold confident brushstrokes and colour. It is hard to imagine them ever needing guidance, but there was a time when all three had reached crossroads struggling to find their way in art and indeed life. It would be Impressionist Camille Pissarro and other artists resident in the beautiful Oise Valley northwest of Paris who welcomed them into their homes offering direction. This lecture explores the resulting relationships and outcomes - positive for two of our three, but tragic for Van Gogh, who would prove so troubled that even the nurturing Oise could not heal him.
